Samsung is set to launch the mid-range Galaxy S8 doppelganger phone, aka the Galaxy A8+, in India later today. The company is hosting a press conference in the National Capital where it will unveil the year’s first big innovation, aka the Galaxy A8+, for the Indian market. Since Amazon India, only recently, started teasing the Galaxy A8+ on its platform, we have reason to believe, the phone in question will be an Amazon India-exclusive in the country although it’s also likely to be available from Samsung’s own e-store as well as from physical retail stores.

Samsung launched the mid-range Galaxy S8 doppelganger phone, the Galaxy A8+ (alongside the Galaxy A8) in December 2017. Successor to the Galaxy A7 2017 phone, the Galaxy A8+ aims to offer flagship kind of experience at relatively mainstream prices. Featuring an all-glass and metal design, the Galaxy A8+ comes with a bezel-less Infinity screen and a dual front camera system. The phone is also IP68 certified and supports Samsung Pay.

“With the release of the Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018), we’re bringing our customers’ favorite features from our flagship smartphones, such as the Infinity Display and our first Dual Front Camera with Live Focus, to our Galaxy A series, which is already known for its premium design”, Junho Park, vice president of Global Product Planning, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics had said announcing the Galaxy A8+. “The Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) exemplify our continued dedication to meeting the needs of our consumers by providing them with greater choice and convenience.”

The Galaxy A8+ comes with a 6-inch 1080p+ Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core (unspecified) processor with up to 6GB RAM and up to 64GB of internal storage which is expandable by up to 256GB via a micro-SD card slot. It sports a 16-megapixel rear sensor with f/1.7 aperture, phase detection autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video recording. On the front, it comes with a dual camera system, consisting of one 16-megapixel sensor (f/1.9) and another 8-megapixel sensor to aid in portrait selfies.

The Galaxy A8+ further runs Android 7.1 Nougat-based Experience user interface and is backed by a 3,500mAh with support for fast charging.

It’s yet to be seen whether Samsung will launch the Galaxy A8 alongside the Galaxy A8+ as well.
