Amazon Prime Video finally comes to Apple TV

3

Apple at its developers conference back in June announced that it had buried its differences with Amazon and would bring the latter’s Prime Video streaming service to the Apple TV this year. After many months and questions on whether Apple would keep its promise, Prime Video has finally arrived on Apple TV and can be downloaded via the App Store in tvOS.

India Today Tech can confirm this via the latest version of Amazon Prime Video app on iOS (version 5.0), which details that the streaming service can be viewed on Apple TV (3rd generation and later) by downloading the standalone tvOS app. As we didn’t have access to an Apple TV at the time of writing, we can not confirm whether it has rolled out officially. However, since it has been mentioned in the latest version of the iOS app, it’s safe to assume that the Cupertino giant has pushed out the streaming service for its Apple TV.

For the uninitiated, Amazon Prime Video is a video streaming service similar to Netflix and Hotstar. While the latter two have been available for Apple TV users, Prime Video had been held back for a long time due to Apple’s dispute with Amazon after the e-commerce platform refused to sell Apple TV units on its platform. At WWDC 2017, Apple announced that Prime Video would roll out for Apple TV this year and many had presumed it would be during the summer. Interestingly, this comes just hours after Google pulled YouTube from two of Amazon’s devices, criticising the latter for not selling Google hardware on its e-commerce platform.

With Prime Video joining Apple TV’s catalogue of streaming services, consumers will now have one more reason to purchase the Cupertino giant’s entertainment box. Prime Video comes bundled with Amazon Prime, and users can join both for a yearly subscription of Rs 999. Apart from movies and TV shows include Amazon Originals, Prime Video offers a wide catalogue of regional content in India. Apple TV users can head to the tvOS Play Store to download Prime Video. Apple could be rolling it out slowly so it may take some time before it reaches your TV.
